5 WAYS TO TURN PLASTIC WASTE INTO VALUE
When properly collected, sorted and processed, plastic waste becomes more than just material to be disposed of. It becomes a valuable resource that can be used to manufacture new products.
At the heart of the circular economy is the principle of returning plastic to production after use, rather than allowing it to leave the system. So, what methods can help turn plastic waste into value?
1. Separate Plastic Waste at the Source
For recycling to work efficiently, plastic waste must be collected separately from other waste. Proper separation at the source reduces contamination and enables the recovery of higher-quality raw materials during recycling.
2. Classify Waste by Plastic Type
Not all plastics have the same properties. Sorting plastics by type, colour and application directly affects the performance of the resulting recycled raw material.
In particular, properly sorting recyclable plastics such as LDPE makes it possible to obtain high-quality raw materials that can be reused in film and packaging production.
3. Produce Regranules from Plastic Waste
Collected plastic waste can be converted into regranules suitable for manufacturing through sorting, washing, filtration and regranulation.
This allows previously used plastics to be repurposed in films, refuse bags, protective packaging, pipes and other polyethylene applications.
4. Manufacture New Products Using Recycled Raw Materials
The true value of recycling emerges when the recovered raw material is returned to production.
Recycled LDPE raw materials can be used to manufacture durable refuse bags, industrial films, pallet covers, agricultural films and flexible packaging solutions. This reduces the need for virgin raw materials derived from fossil resources while extending the useful life of plastics.
5. Establish Closed-Loop Production Models
In a closed-loop approach, waste becomes an input for a new production process. Reprocessing materials generated during manufacturing and incorporating post-consumer waste into production help keep resources within the system for longer.
Gürpilsan Plastik processes post-consumer polyethylene waste within its own recycling and production infrastructure, transforming it into recycled LDPE granules and high-performance film products. When processed with the right technology, processes and production approach, plastic waste becomes a valuable, reusable resource rather than a burden.
With Gürpilsan Plastik, waste becomes a resource for production, and production creates sustainable value.
